Philosophy

We see a need for something with less financial and time commitment than the typical competitive soccer offering, but with better coaches and more ambition than the typical rec level team.  We endeavor to create opportunity for a large range of players by offering two types of teams.

Select teams are generally for players from 6th through 12th grade and are tryout-based.  Tryouts occur each May and establish teams for the following fall and spring seasons.  Cuts and movement from one team to another is an unfortunate part of these teams, but perceived player ability is the determining factor for which players make which teams in our Select program.

Grassroots teams are formed by birth year and range from U7 to U14Players are evaluated at the beginning of each season and grouped on teams in order to best match their current skill level.  Prior to each season, we plan on a specific number of teams based on our preseason registration, which is first-come-first-serve.  Players in an age group practice all together for the first week of each season.  There are no cuts, but teams are separated based on coaches’ evaluations from that first week with the goal of placing players with others of similar skill levels.

Schedule

Select teams
Practices and games are held on weeknights.  Each coach sets the days, times, and location for practices; games are scheduled as the season progresses.  Each week can look slightly different as a result.  We understand this can make things difficult from a planning perspective, but coaches will be flexible with families and players regarding attendance in exchange for families’ flexibility regarding the sometimes-shifting schedule.  There are no mandatory team activities on weekends; however, there may occasionally be optional activities on Saturdays, and we are exploring the possibility of optional tournament play.

Travel

Select teams
Games are primarily in-town at The Colorado Springs School, The Vanguard School, and El Pomar Youth Sports Park, among other venues.  Families can expect one or two trips to surrounding cities as far as Woodland Park, Cañon City, Pueblo, or South Denver suburbs.

Equipment

The two jerseys (black and gold) are the only articles that are required to be purchased from our official apparel provider, Admiral Sports.  For games, players must wear plain black shorts and plain black soccer socks.  Families may choose to purchase Club shorts and socks from Admiral or have players wear their own purchased elsewhere.

Other optional training and fan gear such as training jerseys, warmups, hoodies, and bags can also be purchased on the Club Shop.  Admiral donates a portion of sales back to Anglers FC, so your extra purchases benefit the Club!

For all practices, technical sessions, and games, players should bring a water bottle and their own soccer ball in the appropriate size for their age (U7/U8: size 3 | U9-U12: size 4 | U13+: size 5).

Supporters and Corporate Sponsors

Did you know that on average, Anglers FC needs $100 more per child per season in order to fully cover our expenses? Rather than charging high prices, we operate as a nonprofit, crowdfunded organization, relying on a generous community of supporters and sponsors.  Would you consider helping to “bridge the gap” between our costs and program revenue by giving a one-time gift or joining Anglers FC as a monthly supporter? Donations are tax-exempt.

If your business is interested in becoming a corporate sponsor, you can learn more here and email brendan@anglersfc.com.
