Burning Bush

Hola! Buenos noches!

As Brendan mentioned last night, our day today started with mobility and stretches followed by a morning devotional lead by Lydia. She talked about Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength.” This hit home for me, because if and when I come face to face with anxiety and fear, I can remember to go to the one who provides protection and power to tackle the things of that day. Thanks, Lydia, for bringing the word and sharing your heart. In other words, it was so sigma!

We were back at Yaruqui (the location of the new Cumbre Alta facility) to finish what we started a couple of days ago: painting the entrance walls.  We also needed to hack down all the brush at the front of the property.

It continued the challenge of the past few days with tired bodies; however, spirits remained high, and hearts remained open and obedient to the work to completion. These last three work days have been good character-building moments. We finished painting the walls, piled the shrubs we had chopped up into one big pile, then set them on fire. Yes, we burnt all the branches, not just for fun, but that is what you do in Ecuador. No worries, we stood a safe distance away and nobody got hurt!

We finished the day by heading back to Casa Blanca to shower and clean up before heading over to Nate and Kelly’s home for dinner (Nate is the director of Cumbre Alta), where we ate a home cooked meal and spent a few hours talking, laughing, and still trying to figure out what sigma means. Apparently, it is better than Alpha but according to Urban Dictionary it is “what all 10 year olds think they are”. #sigmaspleasedonthatemeforwritingthis

Anyway, I’m excited for the days ahead. Tomorrow, we will get to go to the equator then go back to another field to finish cutting grass and playing with the U16 girls.
