Statement of Faith

1

We believe in God, the Father, who created the universe.

2

We believe Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah.  He was fully human and fully God, born miraculously of a virgin by the power of the Holy Spirit.  He was unfairly crucified, killed, and buried, but after three days, rose from the dead.  He returned to Heaven and rules with God, the Father; he will come to Earth again to make all things right.

3

We believe in the Holy Spirit, who brings life to everything.  He speaks to us, is present with us, and is worshiped with Jesus and the Father.

4

We believe in the importance of the global Church, the community of God’s people, to work towards making Earth more like Heaven.

5

We believe God offers redemption and restoration, through the atonement of Jesus, to all who confess and forsake their sin. We look forward to when, we too, will be resurrected to rule a unified Heaven and Earth with Jesus.

6

We believe the Bible, as the inspired Word of God, speaks with authority concerning truth, morality, and God’s ideal for human conduct.

7

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, equal, and complementary genders, together, reflect the image and nature of God.

8

We believe that all peoples, nations, and tribes are created in the image of God, that is, that all people, regardless of religious belief, ethnicity, political views, or background, are of sacred worth.  We must oppose hatred and racism.  Respect, love, grace, and compassion must be shown to all individuals.  We will treat players, fellow coaches, opponents, and referees as such.

9

We believe that all Anglers FC coaches are role models both on and off the field. Coaches bear responsibility for teaching players how to strive to win while playing fairly and observing the Laws of the Game and the highest levels of sportsmanship.  In both victory and defeat, the behavior of a coach shall model grace, dignity, and composure.

Individuals choosing to coach with Anglers FC must read the above Statement of Faith. Anglers FC coaches are not required to agree with the specific theological viewpoints expressed in the Statement of Faith or themselves identify as Christian, but they are required to accept the practical applications outlined in the Statement of Faith, particularly in sections 8 and 9, and agree to not contradict the views expressed in sections 1 through 7 with players.  Coaches must also acknowledge that other coaches, staff members, and chaplains within the Club are free and encouraged to share their own Christian worldviews with players and their families.

Parents acknowledge that any child participating in any Anglers FC program may be exposed to the Christian viewpoints and values expressed in the Statement of Faith, among others.
